Secunia Personal Software Inspector provides you with a simple and faster method for downloading the latest security updates for applications installed on your computer. It works together with antivirus or firewall solutions to ensure that the system is not vulnerable to attacks due to outdated software.
Designed with simplicity in mind, the interface is simple and clean, which makes it suitable for any type of user. It displays information about the version of all the installed applications, together with recently installed updates and performed scans.
Each time you run Secunia Personal Software Inspector, it starts to scan your system for outdated and thus insecure programs. In order to do so, it compares the metadata in the program files with information stored on the Secunia servers and determines whether security updates are available or not. By default, updates are started automatically, but you can configure it to let you perform this operation manually.
However, some applications do require user intervention during the installation of the newest version. Such is the case with software that require you to access a webpage in order to complete setup.
The applications that need to be patched and those that are up-to-date are distinguished by using color-coded icons. Red is for outdated software, while green icons are assigned to those who have the latest version installed. Furthermore, a less than 100% 'system score' indicates that there are still programs that require your attention in order to be updated.
In addition to this, you can create ignore rules in order to skip updates to certain programs, as well as choose the drives to be scanned.
