For me, the greatest music exists in an abstract spiritual world that is informed, but by no means determined, by the given instrumentarium. Bach had few qualms about rewriting pieces for other instruments as required, and with many musical ideas, in contrast to virtuosos of the Romantic era, for example, one has the impression that they were hardly influenced by instrumental considerations. It's like a ghostly realm, a great white hall of tones, sounds and voices. This is another reason why I found it so interesting from the outset to realize this dream project with this recording.
