It’s official, September 22nd is National White Chocolate Day.
Created in Switzerland nearly 90 years ago, in 1930, white chocolate wasn’t officially classed as chocolate at all; because it doesn’t contain cocoa solids.
In 2004, a decade after chocolate manufacturers filed their first petition, the US Food and Drug Administration finally welcomed the creamy confection into the chocolate family.
It must though, in order to qualify, contain a minimum of 20 percent cocoa butter. At least 14 percent total milk solids and contain no less than 3 ½ percent milk fat. In addition to this, it can’t consist of any more than 55 percent carbohydrate sweetener.
